A little trip to Tianjin....

Hello peeps.Luckily we had 4 days off last week. That was really needed. The chinese course is pretty tough. After two weeks I can already introduce my family, talk about jobs, studying, how many books and pens and maps I have and name all the numbers and weekdays.....well....that doesn´t help that much when you want to book a Hotelroom, but luckily we had Dean with us...a chinese guy, who did like everything for us in Tianjin. Tianjin is half an hour away from Beijing and really modern and more western than everything I have seen in Beijing so far. I really liked it there, but the smog was terrible. But everything was fine to escape dorm 9 (did I mention the Squattoilets?) So we ended up in a hotel 10 km out of a city and a highway with 6 lanes you had to cross to get the bus....Nevermind...I had my own bathroom....I was in heaven...in a really smoggy heaven. Tianjin is very interesting because it mixes modern and traditional styles. We went to an ancient street ...or it was supposed to look ancient at least and I was the only laowei there to be seen. A laowei is a "typical kliche-foreigern- And I was a) blond b) the only one wearing that mask. The nicest trip we had was to a temple for the goddess of heaven...it was quiet and it smelled really really nice. Because of Dean we just went to local restaurants, what made the locals almost drop their chopsticks everytime we entered. I tried some weird stuff, but didn´t suffer of a foodpoisening yet (fingers crossed). In the evening there is more life on the streets and in the parks. It was mid-autumn fest so everone was eating mooncakes (quite okay) and lifts skylanterns in the sky (really awesome...reminded me of the time we did that in Stockholm) A lot of people (mostly older) were dancing to music in the park and I even joined an aerobic group...videos will follow. Noone even minds if someone is singing opera on the street...Beijing opera isn´t really my thing so far. The next day I met a friend of mine that I haven´t seen for 4 years and we had hotpot together and a lot of chinese girls who wanted to take pictures with him. After this awesome days I got back to dorm 9 and almost got a depression and a heart attack when a chinese man stormed into the room while I was lying in bed and spraying anti-cockroach-spray in our room.
